Studio to Stage Insight Day- ALL GRADES- Primary and Up! (one off taster sessions)

All grades: Insight taster sessions



Sign up now for a one-off taster session, offering a sample of our longer Insight series. Open to vocational and non-vocational students, the workshops will be run during the 2012 February half-term holiday.

During your time with us you will get the chance to improve your technique, learn ballets from the Company's repertoire, look at costumes, and give a small performance for your parents/guardians. The aims of the taster Insights are to hopefully inspire you to continue your enjoyment and passion for dance.

The repertoire used in the workshops draws from The Two Pigeons by Frederick Ashton, and from Hobson's Choice, by Birmingham Royal Ballet's own Director, David Bintley.

Girls-only: Monday 13 February 2012


Grades 2-3 level 10.00–11.45
Grade 4-5 level/Intermediate foundation 12.00-1.45
Grade 6-8/ Intermediate level 2.30-4.30
Advanced 5.00-7.15

Mixed: Tuesday 14 February 2012


Beginners/Grade 1 children's 10.00–11.30

Boys-only: Tuesday 14 February 2012

Grades 2-5 level 12.15-2.00
Intermediate/Advanced 2.30-4.30



Parents/Guardians will be invited to a small sharing at the end of each class to see what the students have achieved during their time with Birmingham Royal Ballet (Maximum 2 adults).

Grade 1 and below: £15
Grades 2-5: £18
Grade 6+ / Intermediate Foundation / Intermediate and above: £20

Studio to Stage Insight Days

Opportunities for dance students to work with Birmingham Royal Ballet in the Company's own studios in Birmingham.

The courses are intended to assist young dancers to achieve their full potential and offers an insight into life with a professional ballet company.

Grade 6/Intermediate foundation and above: Studio to Stage Insight Days



Studio to Stage is an annual series of insight days which are held in Birmingham Royal Ballet Studios at Birmingham Hippodrome. The courses are intended to assist young dancers to achieve their full potential and offers an insight into life with a professional ballet company.

Applicants must be working at RAD Intermediate Foundation/Grade 6 and above (or equivalent syllabus), and must NOT be in full time ballet training.

Teachers are welcome to come along and observe the Insight days.

1. Sunday 20 November 2011


Nutcracker versus Nutcracker Sweeties
A chance to compare and contrast classical and jazz ballet, with choreography from Peter Wright's production of Tchaikovsky's masterpiece, with David Bintley's reworking of the characters to Duke Ellington's swinging arrangements of the same melodies.

2. Sunday 12 February 2012


Story telling through ballet
The chance to focus on the narrative aspect so important to British ballet, using the example of Hobson’s Choice, again by the Company's own Director, David Bintley.

3. Saturday 30 June 2012


Performance day. A full ballet class, talk and tour of the facilities, followed by the opportunity to watch a performance of three contrasting ballets: The Grand Tour, David Bintley's new work Faster, Higher, Stronger and The Dream.

4. Sunday 1 July 2012


Focus on Frederick Ashton (The Dream and The Two Pigeons)
A deeper study of two works both by Frederick Ashton, examining his specific style of movement and musicality.

Times: Times for the above are 10.00-4.15pm, except Insight 3 which will be 9.00-5.00pm; all times subject to slight alterations

Student Fees: £40 per day.
Book all four Insights for only £140.

Beauty and the Beast with the Birmingham Royal Ballet

Off the Stage - Beauty and the Beast ballet repertoire workshops in Salford



A chance to improve your ballet technique and learn extracts from David Bintley’s magical production of Beauty and the Beast. Classes take place at The Lowry, Salford. There will be a small sharing at the end of each class to parents. An opportunity not to be missed!

There will be three classes aimed at different levels/ abilities/ ages:

A celebration of pas-de-deux with 10 professional dancers - specially created for boys and girls  

 

Sunday 30 October 2011   

Ballet Cymru combine with the Royal Academy of Dance to present three workshops:

 

Dolman Theatre, Newport, South Wales                                                  All Levels:  £12

 

LEVEL 1                     10am - 11.30am  (basic pas-de-deux on demi-pointe)  

Grades 4, 5                                             

 

LEVEL 2                     11.45am - 1.30pm   (medium pas-de-deux on demi-pointe)

Grades 6, 7, 8 and Intermediate Foundation

 

LEVEL 3                     2.30pm - 4.30pm   (advanced pas-de-deux to include some pointe work)

Intermediate and Advanced 

 

DANCING TOGETHER gives both male and female dancers the chance to explore dancing with a partner, learn choreography and work with professional dancers. Includes performing to friends and family at the end of each workshop.   Last date for applications is Friday 7 October 2011.

 

 

We want you to get the most out of your workshop. This means that you must have been studying the level (or equivalent) you are entering, for at least 6 months.

South Wales-based Ballet Cymru, are a young, vital group of dancers who

are pushing back the barriers of classical ballet, passionate about delivering

high-quality ballet and education work. These workshops give young dancers

the unique opportunity to learn from 5 male dancers expertly guided by

5 female dancers who know what it takes to be lifted and walked around the

stage. There will also be the opportunity to learn some repertoire from

Ballet Cymru's current production of Beauty and the Beast .

examination programme operating in 80 countries around the world.

Sky1's 'Got to Dance' Auditions

Davina McCall will host the competition, with Ashley Banjo, Kimberley Wyatt and Adam Garcia returning as judges, as dancers battle it out to win the life-changing sum of a quarter of a million pounds and the chance to become the GOT TO DANCE CHAMPION 2012.We are now accepting applications and anyone who thinks they have what it takes to come to our auditions- whether they are 4 or 84, whether a soloist or group, a professional or amateur. Whatever their style of dance, whatever their ability, we would love to see it! RAD Summer School

RAD Summer Schools are a fun-filled week of dance, offering students the opportunity to develop their dance training and experience new and vibrant dance disciplines. Participants work together to take on challenges in a range of classes, whilst learning new skills and making friends, culminating in a showing of work to parents and guardians on the final day. Summer Schools will be held in Jersey, Bournemouth and in London.

Accommodation: Residential accommodation available for London courses,
with an additional fee

Who can attend: Students aged 7 – 18 years, who are studying RAD Grade
2 ballet or the equivalent and above

Duration: Over 5 (Jersey) or 6 (London and Bournemouth)
consecutive days

Fee: London £345.00, Jersey £225.00
Bournemouth £295.00

London Summer Schools are open to students aged 8 – 18 years
due to longer days.

Children's Summer Classes

Based at RAD headquarters (London), students participate in two daily classes in ballet and creative dance, enabling them to build confidence and develop skills over several days. The course closes with a showing of work to parents and guardians on the final day, with fun props and make-up!

Who can attend: Students aged 4 – 7 years

Duration: 2 x 45 minute sessions per day over 5 days, except for final
day which is extended due to rehearsals and showing of work.

Fee: £93.00

Auditions for 'Ystrad has Talent'

Auditions for ‘Ystrad Mynach has Talent!’ are to take place on Friday 10th June at Penallta RFC, Ystrad Mynach (by the Park), between 7-10pm (DOORS OPEN AT 6.30PM!) . These auditions are open to 5-18 year olds. Finalists will perform at the Community Fun Day (held at the Sue Noakes Community Centre) on Saturday 23rd July and a winner will be chosen by members of Only Men Aloud.


Tickets for the auditions on Friday 10th June, can be purchased for £2 on the night.  Doors open at 6:30pm.  There is no registration form required to enter, but if you have any queries or requirements please contact Natalie Sargent on (01443) 816998.  Tickets for the Family Fun Day are £7 per family or £2 per person and includes a wide range of FREE activities.


This is an ideal opportunity for children to perform in front of an audience and to experience an audition.

Repertoire Workshop- Giselle

These workshops are an extension of the Children’s Workshops designed for older and more experienced students. Participants study a scene from a well-known ballet, learning the choreography and how to apply real stage make-up appropriate to the ballet being studied. The workshops conclude with a showing of work for parents and guardians.
